Job Summary

The Web Developer designs and implements new web/internet-based systems and/or services; maintains back-end, web servers and systems; provides technical guidance and collaborates with the other web developers, producers and designers in planning activities. http://rpijobs.rpi.edu/postings/5647

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in a directly relevant field such as Computer Science, IT, or Web Science
• One year of professional experience in a directly related position as well as experience, paid or unpaid, in all of the following:
o Experience building/managing/integrating web applications and information systems in contemporary Content Management System (CMS) such as Drupal, WordPress, Joomla;
o Relevant server-side experience with web programming languages and technologies, such as Java, PHP, XML, CSS3 , HTML5, Javascript
o Experience with structured data, such as XML, JSON, web services, and data modeling and database management.
o Experience with, data-driven web applications, data modeling, and interchange
o Experience with source control systems such as Git and Subversion
o Experience of database development and administration such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, etc.
o Experience implementing search tools, and analyzing site structure/traffic
o Experience integrating open source and third-party applications into existing systems.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficient in Drupal, including custom module development, key contributed modules and core APIs.
• Minimum 2+ years of Drupal hands-on development experience.
• Proficient in the maintenance and administration of Drupal modules and sites.
• Demonstrated knowledge of SEO coding best practices.
• Demonstrated knowledge of W3C WCAG accessibility standards.

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ability to work with limited direction, and to work on more than one project/task at a time
• Ability to work effectively in a collaborative, academic/research environment
• Ability to independently to troubleshoot problems
• Ability to clearly explain technical topics, and give presentations to, and write for an internal audience
• Ability to modify, maintain, and manage complex software systems.
• Ability to perform system administration of web-based systems.
• Understanding of web and Internet protocols, standards, and practices;
• Understanding of usability and accessibility principles and testing
• Working knowledge of structured data, such as XML, web services, and data modeling and database management.
• Understanding of search tools and analyzing site structure and traffic
